Hundreds of Events get Neighbours Together!

12 July 2011

Macra na Feirme’s Know Your Neighbour Weekend, sponsored by ESB Electric Ireland, took place last weekend. The weekend was an overwhelming success with almost 200 events taking place throughout the country. Neighbours took the opportunity to get together to enjoy a BBQ, Family Fun Day, coffee morning  and even a bungee jump!

The aim of the weekend is to get neighbours to take the time to stop, have a chat and get to know those living next to them. The people of Ireland rose to the challenge and adopted the slogan, “Don’t walk by, Say hi!”

Liam Molloy, General Manager of ESB Electric Ireland said, “We’re delighted to be involved in Macra’s Know Your Neighbour Weekend again this year. We have been Macra’s partner for the initiative since it began six years ago. It is very important for ESB Electric Ireland to support the communities in which we operate, so it is fitting that we sponsor Macra’s “Know Your Neighbour” initiative.”

Macra na Feirme National President, Alan Jagoe, said, “The support of your neighbours is crucial in times of need. It is important that you know those living closest to you, particularly in isolated, rural areas. I am delighted with the level of commitment and enthusiasm shown by neighbours across the country for this weekend.  I hope everyone makes the most of their newfound relationships and take the time to interact regularly with their neighbours. Remember, don’t walk by, say hi!"
