I would like to send my best wishes to everyone involved with the Macra na Feirme  'Know Your Neighbour' weekend.

Ireland is a country known for its great community spirit. However, in a changing society and an increasingly busy world in is not always easy to find the time to get to know those who live close by us. But it is important that we remember how invaluable close relationships within our community can be - how they can alleviate loneliness, provide practical help, be a listening ear in times of trouble and often provide treasured and lifelong friendship.

I would urge everyone to take advantage of 'Know Your Neighbour' weekend, whether by organising a community event, arranging a fun afternoon, or simply introducing yourself to a stranger who just might become a friend.

I congratulate everyone involved in this weekend and wish you every success with this important initiative.
